Cosas con las que me encuentro

This quote is often misused as an example of dogmatic science. This is my comment on the matter.(St. Neil. via iheartchaos

Here for a little context on what he was referring to:

“The good thing about science is that it’s true whether or not you believe in it”   - Neil deGrasse Tyson

This speaks about science not being about personal beliefs but about what can be  reasonably deduced or demonstrated through experimentation

Just because someone don’t believe in evolution it doesn’t affect the findings and science behind it. Science is a self correcting enterprise, the heart of science is investigation, seeking to learn what has not already been learned and to get an accurate understanding of ourselves and the universe around us. Science is about  proceeding on the most accurate known facts instead of presumption and assumption.

Science  is the best mechanism we’ve had so far on how to explain our universe and make useful predictions,  got a better idea? no problem, bring it on.

Here are a couple of quotes that may explain better what I’m trying to say.

“Science does not purvey absolute truth, science is a mechanism. It’s a way of trying to improve your knowledge of nature, it’s a system for testing your thoughts against the universe and seeing whether they match” - Isaac Asimov

“What do you think science is? There is nothing magical about science. It is simply a systematic way for carefully and thoroughly observing nature and using consistent logic to evaluate results. So which part of that exactly do you disagree with? Do you disagree with being thorough? Using careful observation? Being systematic? Or using consistent logic?”  - Dr. Steve Novella

A Canticle for Leibowitz by Walter M. Miller Jr.

Down the long centuries after the Flame Deluge scoured the earth clean, the monks of the Order of St. Leibowitz the Engineer kept alive the ancient knowledge. In their monastery in the Utah desert, they preserved the precious relics of their founder: the blessed blueprint, the sacred shopping list and the holy shrine of Fallout Shelter.

“Listen, are we helpless? Are we doomed to do it again and again and again? Have we no choice but to play the Phoenix in an unending sequence of rise and fall?

Assyria, Babylon, Egypt, Greece, Carthage, Rome, the Empires of Charlemagne and the Turk: Ground to dust and plowed with salt. Spain, France, Britain, America—burned into the oblivion of the centuries. And again and again and again.

Are we doomed to it, Lord, chained to the pendulum of our own mad clockwork, helpless to halt its swing? This time, it will swing us clean to oblivion.”
